- AboutData Vortex is an interstellar-themed, offline data science competition that brings together problem-solvers, innovators, and tech enthusiasts for three days of immersive challenges. Participants will navigate through four dynamic rounds that mirror the real-world data lifecycle - from data collection and preprocessing to building adaptive models, tackling surprise constraints, and finally presenting their solutions in a high-impact pitch. Designed to foster analytical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, the event provides a stage to showcase talent while competing for a prize pool and other incentives, making it both a learning experience and a celebration of data-driven innovation. Designed to foster analytical thinking, creativity, and collaboration, the event provides a stage to showcase talent while competing for a prize pool and other incentives, making it both a learning experience and a celebration of data-driven innovation. - StructureDay 1:
Inauguration Ceremony: Kick off the event with an inspiring opening session.
Round 1 – API Challenge: Create a dataset using the provided API service and showcase your data-handling skills.
Day 2:
Round 2 – Data Modeling: Use your dataset to build, test, and validate a model that solves a real-world problem.
Day 3:
Round 3 – Presentation & Surprise Round: Adapt to unexpected constraints in your model and present your innovative solution.
Valedictory Ceremony:
Celebrate the achievements of top performers as the event concludes with the announcement of the winners and special prizes. - TimelineDay 1:
The event opens with an inaugural ceremony, followed by Data Launchpad, where teams extract and preprocess raw data to create structured datasets.
Day 2:
Participants dive into Orbit Shift, a speed modeling challenge where they build predictive models and adapt to a mid-round “Cosmic Twist.”
Day 3:
Finalists face the Black Box Protocol, solving under surprise constraints, and then move to Stellar Pitch, presenting their solutions to judges and the audience. The event concludes with the valedictory ceremony and prize distribution. - RulesGeneral Rules
The event is open to individual participants only; no teams are allowed.
All rounds will be conducted offline, and participants must report at the venue on time.
Internet usage will be limited and monitored, with permissions varying by round.
Participants must carry their own laptops, chargers, and required accessories.
Judges’ and organizers’ decisions will be final and binding.
Round-Specific Rules
Round 1 – Data Launchpad
Extract and clean data from given APIs to produce a structured dataset.
Submissions must be made within the time limit; evaluation will be automated.
Round 2 – Orbit Shift
Build a predictive model on the provided dataset.
A surprise “Cosmic Twist” will be introduced mid-round, and adapting to it is mandatory.
Round 3 – Black Box Protocol
Shortlisted participants will face hidden constraints.
They must rework their solutions quickly and re-submit within the allotted time.
Round 4 – Stellar Pitch
Finalists will present their approach and insights in a 3-minute pitch followed by 2 minutes of Q&A.
A maximum of 2 slides or visual aids is allowed.
Scoring & Progression
Each round is scored out of 100 points, based on accuracy, adaptability, creativity, and presentation.
Advancement is based on cumulative scores across rounds.
In case of a tie, Round 3 (Black Box Protocol) scores will act as the tie-breaker. - FAQ
